Supporting Student Achievement

Study

Lecture and Tutorial Weekends

Learn more and clarify your understanding

The IIPA offers intensive weekend Lecture and Tutorial Seminars to all of students. These seminars are an additional support and can be incredibly useful and informative, they are usually held in the run-up to the exams and are generally very exam focused.

This is a time when students need to be immersing themselves into the their coursework, and attendance is a great way to "rev-up" your study (or indeed kick-start it for those who have been somewhat relaxed in their preparation so far).

Seminars are organised subject to demand, so if you are interested in attending one please let us know as early as possible so that we can make the relevant arrangements. The location for the seminars vary and will be set depending on where would be most accessible to the maximum number of students attending. Where there is sufficient demand, the Institute will also consider offering seminars in more than one geographical location.

Exam Focused

Targeted on achieving exam success

Attendance at out seminars is entirely voluntary and there is no pressure on any student to attend. That said it is very much in the interest of students that they attend. The seminars are very much focused on how to go about achieving success in the exams. It should be noted however that it is not the policy of the Institute to give tips on particular subject material, nor do we provide some other mechanism for revealing material that is likely to appear on the exam.

Consistency in examination approach is the key technique used to ensure students understand how we undertake our exams. Those who practice, practice and practice again exam questions under exam conditions (i.e. only allotting the time that would be available in an exam for the questions) dramatically increase the likelihood that they will pass an exam.

Preparation in Advance of Attending a Weekend Seminar

Getting the most out of your lectures and tutorials

At the end of the day it is entirely your choice how prepared and knowledgeable of the information you are before attending a seminar, but the benefit you will achieve from attending will increase immensely if you put some thought behind in before attending. You should ask yourself some questions such as:

  • Despite all of my efforts are there specific areas of the course that I just do not understand?
  • Do I require clarification of the syllabus as a whole, in other words are there particular subjects that I am unsure are on or off the syllabus?
  • What are the Examiners looking for when they are asking a particular type of question?
  • Anything else related to the subject matter

Help from Head Office

If there are particular areas you would like covered in the seminar, please do not assume that the tutor knows this. Contact IIPA Head Office and your request to cover a particular subject will be passed on to the tutor. There may be questions that you need clarified which are more around the organisation of the exams rather than the subject material of individual modules, and again the Head Office is the place to contact. In the first instance check out the "Examinations" page on this site, and if this does not answer your question(s) do not hesitate to contact the IIPA directly.
