Supporting Achievement among our Students

Lecture and Tutorial Weekends
A venue to learn more and ask questions
In addition to the supports mentioned elsewhere on our website, the IIPA also offers intensive weekend Lecture and Tutorial Seminars to all of our students. These seminars are an additional support and can be incredibly useful and informative to our students, especially as they are usually held in the run-up to the exams. This is a time when students need to be immersing themselves into the their coursework, and attendance is a great way to "rev-up" your study (or indeed kick-start it for those who have been somewhat relaxed in their preparation so far).
Other than for the Final Admitting Exam, where seminars are always available, these events are organised subject to demand, so if you are interested in attending one please let us know as early as possible so that we can make the relevant arrangements. The location for the seminars vary and will be set depending on where would be most accessible to the maximum number of students attending. Where there is sufficient demand, the Institute will also consider offering seminars in more than one geographical location.
Exam Focused
Targeted on achieving exam success
Attendance at out seminars is entirely voluntary and there is no pressure on any student to attend. That said it is very much in the interest of students to attend, this is because the seminars are very much focused on how to go about achieving success in the exams. It should be noted however that it is not the policy of the Institute to give tips on particular subject material, nor do we provide some other mechanism for revealing material that is likely to appear on the exam.
Consistency in examination approach is the key technique used to ensure students understand how we undertake our exams. Hence it is an absolute truth that those who practice, practice and practice exam questions under exam conditions (i.e. only allotting the time that would be available in an exam for the questions) dramatically increase the likelihood that they will pass the exam.
Based on this "absolute truth", significant time is spent in our seminars developing a students understanding of how to interpret and approach examination questions. They will also make time available for tutoring, that is answering and clarifying particular matters to do with the syllabus content.
Preparation in Advance of Attending a Weekend Seminar
Getting the most out of your lectures and tutorials
At the end of the day it is entirely your choice how prepared and knowledgeable of the information you are before attending a seminar, but the benefit you will achieve from attending will increase immensely if you put some thought behind what you want to achieve from the seminar. In order to do this you should ask yourself some questions such as:
- Despite all of my efforts are there specific areas of the course that I just do not understand?
- Do I require clarification of the syllabus as a whole, in other words are there particular subjects that I am unsure are on or off the syllabus?
- What are the Examiners looking for when they are asking a particular type of question?
- Anything else related to the subject matter
Help from Head Office
If there are particular areas you would like covered in the seminar, please do not assume that the tutor knows this. Contact IIPA Head Office who will be only too happy to pass any requests on to the tutor. Furthermore there may be questions that you need clarified which are more around the organisation of the exams rather than the subject material of individual modules. In the first instance check out the "Examinations" page on this site, and if this does not answer your question(s) do not hesitate to contact the IIPA directly in any of the ways outlined opposite.
